What is Choledochal Cyst?

Choledochal cyst is congenital dilation of bile ducts. Can present in children or adults with recurrent cholangitis, pancreatitis, bile stasis. Increased risk of cholangiocarcinoma. Requires complete surgical excision. Dr. Ashok Kumar specializes in complex biliary surgery.

Classification & Symptoms

• Type I: Most common, affects common bile duct
• Type II: Diverticulum of CBD
• Type III: Choledochocele

Gold standard treatment. Removes entire cyst including cyst wall to prevent malignant transformation. Creates hepaticojejunostomy for bile drainage. Requires meticulous technique to preserve liver and surrounding structures.
