At Charak Hospital, our fertility team offers a full range of ART procedures in a supportive, patient-centred environment. We begin with a thorough evaluation of both partners and develop a personalised treatment plan for the best possible outcome.

Step-by-Step IVF Process

1

Initial Consultation & Investigation

Detailed medical history, hormonal blood tests, transvaginal ultrasound (antral follicle count), semen analysis. Identify the cause of infertility and confirm IVF suitability.

2

Ovarian Stimulation

Daily hormone injections (FSH/LH) for 10–12 days stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Monitored with ultrasound follicle tracking and blood oestrogen levels every 2–3 days.

3

Egg Retrieval (OPU)

Mature eggs are collected via a fine needle passed through the vaginal wall under ultrasound guidance, under IV sedation. Takes 20–30 minutes. Most patients go home the same day.

4

Fertilisation in the Laboratory

Eggs are fertilised with prepared sperm (IVF) or a single sperm is injected into each egg (ICSI). Fertilisation is confirmed after 16–18 hours. Embryos are cultured for 3–5 days.

5

Embryo Transfer

The best quality embryo(s) are transferred into the uterus via a thin catheter — a painless procedure taking 5–10 minutes. Remaining high-quality embryos are cryopreserved for future cycles.

6

Pregnancy Test

A blood beta-hCG test 14 days after transfer confirms pregnancy. If successful, early pregnancy support and monitoring continue until handover to the obstetric team at 10–12 weeks.
