Minimally invasive. Precisely controlled. Remarkably faster recovery.

Robotic surgery — formally known as robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery — is a highly advanced surgical technique in which a surgeon performs an operation using a set of robotic arms controlled from a specialised console. The Da Vinci Xi Surgical System, the world's most widely used robotic surgical platform, is at the heart of our programme at Charak Hospital, Lucknow.
Unlike traditional open surgery that requires a large incision, or conventional laparoscopy that limits the surgeon's movement, the Da Vinci Xi enables our surgeons to operate through tiny 0.5–1 cm incisions with 10× magnified 3D high-definition vision and wristed instruments that move with greater range and precision than the human hand.
The result for patients: less blood loss, lower infection risk, minimal scarring, significantly reduced pain, and a far faster return to normal life — often within days rather than weeks. Robotic surgery has transformed outcomes in cardiac, urological, gynaecological and gastrointestinal procedures, and Charak Hospital is now bringing this technology to patients across Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh.
The Da Vinci Xi is the latest generation robotic surgical system from Intuitive Surgical — used in over 10 million procedures worldwide. It has three integrated components that work together seamlessly:
The surgeon sits at an ergonomic console, viewing a magnified 3D-HD image of the surgical site and controlling the robotic arms with hand and foot controls. The surgeon is in complete control at all times.
Four robotic arms — positioned beside the patient on the operating table — hold the camera and instruments. These arms replicate the surgeon's precise movements through the tiny incisions in real time.
Provides the 3D-HD display system, image processing, and communication between the console and patient cart. The entire care team can view the surgery live on a shared screen.
Key advantage: The Da Vinci Xi's wristed instruments bend and rotate far beyond the natural range of the human wrist, giving surgeons unparalleled dexterity inside confined spaces — critical for cardiac, pelvic and thoracic procedures.
Led by Dr. Vijay Agarwal (MBBS, MS, MCh CTVS, FRCS Edinburgh — 27+ years, 4000+ surgeries), our CTVS team uses robotic-assisted techniques for complex cardiac and thoracic procedures. Robotic cardiac surgery offers smaller incisions on the chest, dramatically reduced blood loss, no sternal splitting in select cases, and shorter ICU stays compared to conventional open-heart surgery.
Robotic surgery has transformed urological oncology and reconstruction. With the Da Vinci Xi, our urology team delivers precise tumour removal, nerve preservation, and tissue reconstruction — significantly improving functional outcomes for kidney, prostate and bladder conditions.
Robotic surgery for gynaecological conditions offers women reduced blood loss, minimal scarring, faster return to daily activities, and significantly lower pain levels compared to open hysterectomy or laparotomy. Our team handles both benign and malignant gynaecological conditions robotically.
Our robotic GI surgery programme covers the full range of gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) procedures. The precision of robotic dissection reduces inadvertent bleeding and organ injury, especially critical in pancreatic and oesophageal surgeries.
