About Dr. Shreya Sengupta
Dr. Shreya Sengupta is an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon with specialised fellowship training in Oral Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery. At Charak Hospital & Research Centre, Lucknow, she works as part of the Department of Medical & Surgical Oncology, focusing on the evaluation, diagnosis and surgical management of cancers of the mouth, jaws and head & neck region.

Frequently asked questions
What does an oral oncology and maxillofacial surgeon treat?
An oral oncology and maxillofacial surgeon diagnoses and surgically treats cancers and pre-cancerous conditions of the mouth, jaws and face, such as cancers of the tongue, cheek, gums and jaw bone, and plans reconstruction after tumour removal.
Is every mouth ulcer or white patch cancer?
No. Most mouth ulcers heal on their own. However, an ulcer, white patch or red patch that does not heal within two to three weeks, especially in people who use tobacco, gutkha or areca nut, should be examined, and a biopsy may be advised.
Is oral cancer curable?
Oral cancers found at an early stage are often treated successfully, usually with surgery, sometimes followed by radiotherapy or chemotherapy. The outlook depends on the stage and the individual patient, which your doctor will explain after evaluation.
What should I bring to my consultation?
Please bring any previous biopsy reports, CT or MRI scans with CDs, blood test reports, a list of current medicines and your insurance or Ayushman card if applicable.
